Dear Average Height People is a documentary comedy special exploring the history of dwarfism culture. Told through a series of interviews and vignettes, the film marks the directorial debut of Aubrey Smalls, who will direct and star alongside producing partner Katrina Kemp. Featuring a cast of artists with dwarfism, Dear Average Height People is an enigmatic, uplifting and educational documentary special that will be talked about for years to come.

Dear Average Height People was conceived in 2021 when Aubrey Smalls, a black man with dwarfism, found himself subjected to online attacks by a disability hate group on YouTube. After months passed with no support from YouTube, Smalls decided to take matters into his own hands and soon began developing a long form, visual response to the harassment.

Everyday, millions of people are searching the terms “dwarfism,” “little person” and “midget” across YouTube, Instagram, Twitter and Tik Tok. People want to know more about dwarfism, but they have nowhere to go. The goal of the film is to empower viewers into living their truth, and using their voice, while also sharing education surrounding dwarfism in an engaging way.

Recently, the project has raised $36,000 in community fundraising and Aubrey has been featured on ABC News and PBS American Masters. Now we are continuing our efforts to bring this story to life and talking with investors to continue our financing efforts.

The goal with the film is not just to present a straightforward documentary about dwarfism. To be honest, that’s been done before and people with dwarfism can offer more than that! I want to create a feel-good film that showcases both the real-life stories of people with dwarfism, and the vast amounts of talent within our community as well
